Influence of Temperature on Battery Life

When Temperature Is Too Low

You may find that playing an iPod or using an iPhone or iPad in temperatures below 0°C (32°F) decreases battery life. Unlike the effects of a hot environment, this is a temporary condition. Once the battery warms up it will return to its previous capacity.

Optimal Temperature

A battery works best between 0° to 35°C (32° to 95°F). It is ideal to keep your device as near as possible to the room temperature 22°C (72°F).

When Temperature Is Too High

If you use your device in temperatures higher than 35°C (95°F), you may permanently damage your battery’s health. That is, your battery will discharge faster than it used to. You may damage it even more if you charge the device in these temperatures. If charging your device while in a carrying case generates excess heat, take it out of the case before charging. Even storing a battery in a hot environment can damage it irreversibly.
